Donation Criteria

The following criteria will assist the Board of Trust Aoraki Limited (Trust Aoraki) to determine the eligibility of applicants to receive grant funding.
Vision and Mission
1. Trust Aoraki’s Vision and Mission is to provide support to enable community well-being by maximising financial support to local communities.
Constitutional Purpose
2. The primary purpose of Trust Aoraki is to promote, foster and encourage amateur sports and as such, no less than 70% of its net income must be distributed for this purpose.
3. Trust Aoraki will also support other charitable purposes, including community organisations promoting culture, arts, education and health.
Authorised Purpose (in accordance with Trust Aoraki’s Gambling Licence)
4. Trust Aoraki may make grants for any charitable purpose and any non-commercial purpose that is beneficial to the whole or a section of the community.
5. The above authorised purpose includes (but is not limited to) providing grants for:
5.1. The promotion of participation in amateur sport;
5.2. Amateur teams’ playing uniforms and sporting equipment;
5.3. Amateur teams’ training costs;
5.4. Ground maintenance and ground hire for amateur sporting facilities;
5.5. Amateur players’ reasonable and necessary travel expenses, including accommodation associated with the travel;
5.6. Public sports facilities (e.g., a stadium), provided that the facilities are not used primarily for professional sport;
5.7. Providing and/or the promotion of public amenities and recreational facilities, (e.g., rugby grandstands, sports centres, public halls, libraries, museums, playing fields, gymnasiums, swimming pools);
5.8. General public education;
5.9. Furthering public health;
5.10. Recognised charitable organisations (e.g., Plunket, Riding for the Disabled, Salvation Army or Red Cross) to further the objectives of these groups;
5.11. Non-profit community cultural or arts festivals.
Grant Funding Philosophies
6. Trust Aoraki is guided by the following Grant Funding Philosophies:
6.1 Locals for locals – Trust Aoraki ensures that 100% of available grant funds raised within a local community (typically defined by territorial local authority boundaries) are distributed within that local community. However, the Board may, at their discretion, apply and distribute funds generated from one area into another area where the Board considers there is a community of interest between the two areas. Trust Aoraki also ensures decisions about grant funding are directed by personnel in the local community where possible.
6.2 Excellence – Trust Aoraki accepts applications for grant funding for ‘excellence’, namely applicants are required to demonstrate they are achieving at a high level.
6.3 Participation – Trust Aoraki accepts applications for grant funding where the community benefit is maximised ensuring benefit from the grant funding is wide reaching.
6.4 Economic Benefits – Trust Aoraki accepts applications for grant funding for events or tournaments where the community will receive an economic benefit.
Organisations
7. Sports Organisations / Clubs – Sports organisations and clubs must be affiliated to a recognised national organisation. Grant funds can only be made to amateur sports. Applications must be submitted by sports organisations or clubs on behalf of teams or individuals.
8. Cultural / Arts Organisations – Applications for grant funding for non-profit cultural and arts organisations (e.g., theatre groups, cultural groups, museums, art galleries and cultural or arts festivals) will be considered.
9. Education Organisations – Applications for grant funding for non-profit education-related organisations (e.g., kindergartens and schools) will be considered.
10. Health Organisations – Applications for grant funding for non-profit health organisations (e.g. Alzheimers NZ) will be considered.
Further Funding Criteria
11. The applicant organisation must be the beneficiary of the grant funds. However, on a case-by-case basis, Trust Aoraki will consider an application from a professional or non-professional fundraising organisation on behalf of an applicant if all other Grant Funding Criteria are met.
12. Applications for grant funding for the purchase or lease of vehicles will be considered but must be used for authorised purposes only and not for private or commercial activities. Vehicle ownership or the lease agreement must be in the name of the applicant organisation. For auditing purposes, logbooks of the use of the vehicle needs to be maintained.
13. Grant funds must not result in commercial or personal gain or profit.
14. All playing uniforms and equipment must remain the property of the applicant organisation.
15. Events or trips that are predominantly social in nature, (e.g. parties, balls, sports supporters’ trips, family or group reunions etc), will not be eligible for grant funding.
16. Comparable quotes must be provided, wherever possible.
17. Expenses must be incurred within New Zealand unless a specialised item is not available within New Zealand.
18. Organisations are required to have operated for at least 12 months before applying for grant funding and must have Annual Accounts covering the latest 12-month period. Trust Aoraki may consider an exception to this requirement on a case-by-case basis.
19. All decisions to allocate Trust Aoraki net proceeds are at the sole discretion of the Trust Aoraki Board whether or not the application meets any or all Trust Aoraki Funding Criteria. Reasons for partial funding or declining an application will be notified to the applicant.
20. Trust Aoraki does not fund:
20.1. Retrospective grant funding applications. A grant is considered to be retrospective when any costs have been incurred and paid before the grant funding is approved or paid to the recipient organisation.
20.2. Applications from an organisation located in an area where Trust Aoraki does not have a venue generating funds unless there is a benefit to an organisation who has members located in an area where Trust Aoraki has such a venue
20.3. Organisations that operate their own gaming machines.
20.4. Dress uniforms and individual athlete bags.
20.5. Prize cups and medals.
20.6. Catering expenses.
20.7. Bar related expenses.
20.8. Applications for administration and operational costs (e.g. wages, power, telephone etc.) unless the application meets a recognised need within a local community.
Conflict of Interest
21. There must be no conflict of interest between the applicant and any provider of goods and services.
22. The Board and any employee of or independent contractor associated with Trust Aoraki will not knowingly receive or seek any benefit (financial or otherwise), advantage, privilege or gift from any grant recipient or potential grant recipient, if receipt of the benefit, advantage, privilege or gift is conditional upon the positive determination of a grant funding application.
